Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013

Wootwoo! Daniel Day-Lewis wins again! Wow! And Anne Hathaway, too! And yeah, Jennifer Lawrence! To be honest, I haven’t seen The Hunger Games, not that I didn’t want to, I just haven’t found the time, since, yes, I wasn’t too excited about it, but NOT that I didn’t want to watch it. Defensive, much? Don’t hate. But anyway, I was trying to say that I’m now quite interested in watching Silver Linings Playbook because: a) Jennifer Lawrence has scooped up almost all of the Best Actress awards this season; b) Bradley Cooper is in it; and c) because the movie’s genre is more to my liking.

Aaand, I’m happy for Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey as well. 30 Rock rocks!

Here’s a list of the winners:

Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln
Actress: Jennifer Lawrence, Silver Linings Playbook
Supporting actor: Tommy Lee Jones, Lincoln
Supporting actress: Anne Hathaway, Les Miserables
Cast: Argo
Stunt ensemble: Skyfall

Actor in a movie or miniseries: Kevin Costner Hatfields & McCoys
Actress in a movie or miniseries: Julianne Moore, Game Change
Actor in a drama series: Bryan Cranston, “Breaking Bad”
Actress in a drama series: Claire Danes, Homeland
Actor in a comedy series: Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Actress in a comedy series: Tina Fey, 30 Rock
Drama series cast: Downton Abbey
Comedy series cast: Modern Family
Stunt ensemble: Game of Thrones

And here are the ladies who rocked on the red carpet:

necessity breeds…

I went grocery shopping the other day. By myself. A week or two’s worth of groceries for a household of five. That’s several kilos of meat, laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid,  snacks, canned goods, etc. etc. And, I don’t exactly have a car. So, I had to commute, which involved walking for about a kilometer to and fro. Anticipating that I might be carrying several grocery bags, I took with me a 60 liters North Face backpack so I’d have my hands free. What I hadn’t anticipated, though, was the weight of all the groceries I bought. It was damn heavy! Me, such a plank. I had to walk hunched over to counter balance the weight that was pulling me backwards to the ground. I tried to look unfazed, which I think I managed to achieve. Not sure though as some guys were staring. I’ve been extra careful not end up like this guy.

Seriously, if I wasn’t careful, this could have been me– back on the ground, hands and legs a flailing. Only, I wouldn’t be alone in the middle of the road. There’d be people looking weirdly, and, of course, laughing hard at me.

Anyhoo, on to other matters…

This space hasn’t been much of a journal lately, has it? I haven’t written much about what I’ve been doing lately, or what I’ve been thinking. Not that that matters much to people. But I’d want to read back through these notes later to reminisce. I know! So, I’ve got to do better than this. It’s just that fashion and fashionable people simply overwhelms me sometimes most of the time.

Sundance 2013 Film Festival

The 10-day festival kicked off on the 17th with a fundraising event called An Artist at the Table, followed by the Day One Film screening. There are, like, almost a couple hundred films that will be screened and I’ve read the reviews of some of the film. I know, reviews are subjective. But if you’re curious, I’ve been reading slashfilm and indiewire.

Soon, we’ll finally find out who wins what and what movies to watch out for. Personally, I’m looking out for Jim Rash and Nat Faxon’s The Way Way Back, Joseph Gordon- Levitt’s directorial debut film Don Johnson’s Addiction, Richard Linklater’s Before Midnight (uhm, a sequel to Before Sunrise and Before Sunset?), Stoker (mostly because I think Matthew Goode was cute in Chasing Liberty), and perhaps, Lovelace– I’m Amanda Seyfried’s fan after all. Oh! And there are Drake Doremus’ Breathe In and Sebastian Silva’s Crystal Fairy, Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale, too.

And yes, I heart Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters. They rock!
And here’s a peek at the fashpack.

US Presidential Inauguration 2013: Stars & Celebrations

@ the 57th Presidential Inaugural Address for US President Barack Obama

Love Eva Longoria’s dusty rose coat. And Jay-z looks dashing in his Tom Ford suit as Beyonce is stunning in her Emilio Pucci gown and Christian Dior fur coat.

Also loving KatyPerry’s look. She’s wearing a Rodarte dress and coat, paired with Jimmy Choo boots. For more details of her outfit, read over Red Carpet Fashion Awards’ blog entry. P.S. this is one of my favorite fashion blogs, ever! So, informative and inspiring. 🙂

Moving on.

2013 London Critics’ Circle Film Awards

Woohoo! Joaquin Phoenix wins the Best Actor at the London Critics’ Circle award for the film The Master.

source: the cinema source

source: indiewire

I’ve always been a big Joaquin Phoenix fan and i strongly believe that he is a tremendously great actor. I loved him in Inventing the Abbotts, couldn’t hate him in Gladiator (in which he got numerous nominations for Best Supporting Actor), and was enthralled by his performance in Walk the Line (in which he won two Best Actor awards, a Grammy, and received several nominations). He actually did all the singing in the film and sounded so much like Johnny Cash!

And, I think we’ve all heard or read about that infamous statement he made in an interview by Elvis Mitchell last year, in which he frankly spoke about his feelings about the Oscars. you know, something like ‘it’ being the worst-tasting carrot that he’s ever tasted, and somewhere along the lines of ‘it’ being totally subjective, and stupid. He did later retract his statement, though, saying that he wouldn’t have the career that he has if it weren’t for the Oscar’s. aw… Hey, we’re only human and sometimes, in the heat of the moment, we get to say harsh thing or two which we don’t we don’t really mean, or at least half-meant, right?

Anyway, despite not being around to receive the award, he later released a statement that read:
“I struggle with the idea of winning awards for acting. Stating I’m Best Actor for something as subjective as film seems strange to me. To the uninitiated it implies I’m solely responsible for the creation and implementation of the character. I am not. I suppose that’s why we thank our colleagues. There are those who you all know such as Paul Thomas Anderson, to whom I am eternally grateful – a man who has persistently searched for the truth. I am fortunate to have been under his guidance. Philip Seymour Hoffman for his patience and advice. Amy Adams for being angry. Megan Ellison and everyone at Annapurna for their support of the film and ensuring that I was able to cover my mortgage. But there are many others who you do not know by name such as Mike Kenna, who I believe was the grip but he did 20 different jobs so I can’t be sure; Adam Somner, the first assistant director; Karen Ramirez in the office; Tommy – I don’t know your last name… there are too many to list. The truth is, you cannot separate my work from their’s. We were a unit bolstered by the same goal: to do our part in helping Paul to achieve his vision. I view this award as recognition of all of our work. I am very cognisant of the fact that for me this award is an encouragement to continue my lifelong passion of being an actor. I will not squander this high regard. P.S. There’s an up-and-coming actor named Daniel who’s in a movie called ‘Lincoln.’ You should check it out.”

Well, I was quite moved, weren’t you? Here’s a glimpse at the red carpet.
