In Focus: Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey

This pretty and fit lady here is an American mixed martial artist and judoka. I meant to write about her several weeks back after watching her match with Liz Carmouch, another female mixed martial arts fighter.  Rousey won the match, by the way, at round 1, via armbar! I soon learned from The Mister that she usually wins her matches in that round. Geesh, talk about tough!

A professional fighter at 22, she’s the first and current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, and was the former Strikeforce (another mixed martial arts and kickboxing organization) Women’s Bantamweight Champion. From what I’ve read about her, she started judo at age 11 and retired by age 21. Before she became a professional fighter, she’s won medals in the Olympics and Pan Am Games. And just last year, she posed nude for the cover of ESPN’s fourth annual Body Issue. Her mother, Ann Maria Rousey DeMars, was the first American to win at the World Judo Championships during the 1984 tournament.
